Three Display Panel Makers from Taiwan Paved the Way for LED Lighting Market

Taiwan’s display panel makers Wintek Corp., Jeng Shiang Precision Ind. Co., Ltd and ArmTRAN Technology Co., Ltd. have paved the way for tapping Taiwan’s market for LED lighting.

It’s said that Wintek specializes in touch screen, Jeng Shiang in light guide plate for the panel and ArmTRAN in LCD monitor. They have recently branched out into LED lighting from the LCD sector.

Wintek has found an LED-lighting business division with a team of 20-30 specialists. The division began shipping the lamps in the second half of 2010, having made them available at Walmart in Germany. It mainly sells light bulbs, including T5 light tubes, T8 light tubes, and MR16 lamps. It will add downlights and desk lamps to its LED product collection in May.

Jeng Shiang has reengineered its light guide plates originally used in backlights, making them suitable for LED lighting fixtures. According to the company’s executives, the plates allow the lights to produce soft illumination. It has begun shipping desk lamps designed with European flavor.

ArmTRAN will make most of its established distribution channels for LCD panels to promote its own-brand LED bulbs at a competitive price range of US$10 to US$15.
