The young startup alleged that those microscopic LEDs they produced can be placed on almost any surface, as the Spokesman-Review carried in its report. The size of Rohinni’s LEDs is 250 microns long, 125 microns wide, and 80 microns tall. They can be placed unpackaged in a small area and consume less power.

Rohinni has been granted 60 patents for its Micro LEDs, equipment, and manufacturing technologies form the U.S. Patent Office. It also use patented robots to produce LEDs.

In an interview LEDinside had with Rohinni last year, the company stressed it would pick the keyboard backlight market as their first aim. It is niche enough to make Rohinni stand out from other Micro LED firms and also small enough that it does not give it too much pressure.

Rohinni announced its partnership with KoJa, a Taiwan-based keyboard membrane switch  company, and formed a joint venture called Luumii to carry out its business plans in January.

The joint venture has 25 employees and two of Rohinni’s LED-manufacturing robots. Two more are anticipated to operate this month, revealed Matt Gerber, CEO of Rohinni. It may start the first production by the end of 2017.

He continued that Rohinni this year also signed two contracts, one of which detailed that it will be producing for a consumer electronics company the backlight for a 13-inch display with 6,000 LEDs in it.

He unveiled the startup is collaborating with a major household-oriented company in automotive lighting.

Rohinni as of now has raised about USD 15 million and is expecting a new funding boost of USD 15-20 million in 2018.
