WELLMAX Forges Partnership with BORE, Granting IP Protection for All WELLMAX LED Filament Bulbs

On January 15th, Shanghai Wellmax Lighting Industry (WELLMAX) signed a strategic partnership agreement with Jiangsu Prajna Electronic Industry (BORE) in Shanghai. As Epistar’s long-term partner, BORE’s collaboration with WELLMAX mainly focuses on the development of LED filament bulbs. The strategic partnership identifies the close bond of the two companies on future LED encapsulation R&D, and it licenses WELLMAX with the intellectual property rights (IPR) of Epistar’s technology on LED filament, allowing WELLMAX to develop, manufacture, and sell LED filament bulbs worldwide.

LED filament bulb has been demonstrating great market potential worldwide in recent years. In 2017, the market size of LED filament bulb is projected to surpass 300 million bulbs, with a 100% YoY growth. By 2018, its market size will soar to 600 million, estimated by Epistar.

One of the crucial LED filament patents involves the technique of adhering several LED chips onto a transparent substrate. Epistar is one of the earliest to develop and acquire the original patents of this key technology in U.S., Europe, China, and Taiwan, solidifying its dominant position in the LED filament sector.

WELLMAX’s CEO Yamin Wang remarked on the signing ceremony: “Through cooperating with BORE, WELLMAX will be able to include high quality LED filament bulbs in our product lines. With patent protection from Epistar, WELLMAX LED filament products can help our clients avoid the high risk of patent infringement in their market.” BORE’s CEO Lewis Lu said: “The companies that are serious about proprietary technology and have missions to create added values to clients will go further in the market. WELLMAX is just this kind of company that we and Epistar want to work with; we will fully support WELLMAX on product R&D, and collaboratively develop competitive solutions with premium quality.”

The partnership will add another pair of strong wings to WELLMAX’s R&D capability and supply chain integration ability, signifying its industrial leading position as the LED Bulb Expert. In 2018, WELLMAX will introduce a series of LED filament bulbs that combine Epistar’s cutting-edge LED chip technologies and WELLMAX’s innovative product solutions. Additional new product series will be released on the March Light+Building exhibition.
