Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2009: an Arena of Asian, US and European LED manufacturers

Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2009 was held at Guangzhou Pazhou Complex from June 09 to 12. At the show this year, the 12 exhibition halls were filled with some 1600 exhibitors, compared to 1676 manufacturers last year.

Under the influence of H1N1 flu and global economic downturn, the exhibition halls were not as crowded as last year, with the number of buyers notably reduced. Nevertheless, the manufacturers were still active in exhibiting their products, and many of them have introduced new products on the show.

As an event of the lighting field, the main focus of the exhibition was on finished lighting products, with only a few exhibitors displaying LED components and power supply products. The exhibitors mainly consisted of manufacturers from Taiwan and Mainland China. Major global players including CREE, Philip, OSRAM, and GE also attended the event to showcase their relevant LED application products.

LEDinside has observed that more emphasis was placed on Solid-State Lighting compared to last year. In terms of booth arrangement, the LED technology exhibition area expanded this year, and manufacturers of LEDs and other relevant products were also located at more conspicuous spots.

Additionally, the ratio of LED products exhibited by manufacturers also increased noticeably, with many traditional lighting providers introducing LED lighting products in the fair. Industry heavyweights in China have begun to switch from traditional lighting to Solid-State Lighting, which could account for the fact that high power LEDs have been in short supply in 2009.
