[Touch Taiwan 2018 Show Report] Mini LED Technology Blooms in Gaming and Automotive Applications

The display show, Touch Taiwan, has kicked off in Taipei, Taiwan. The next generation display technology, Mini and Micro LED, has been the spotlight of the event with several companies showcasing their latest display products adopting the technologies. According to the latest report of LEDinside, the market value of Micro LED and Mini LED products is estimated at US$1.38 billion by 2022.

Taiwanese panel maker AUO has set up its booth with 10 curved 85-inch displays to show their excellent performance featuring 8K4K resolutions, bezels-free design, HDR and fast response time. Mini LED and Micro LED products presented at the booth have both attracted lots of attention from the visitors.

AUO has demonstrated its 65-inch Mini LED backlight big format gaming display and its gaming notebook panels deploy the same technology. In addition, the company has introduced its full color TFT driven Micro LED display at the event.


Meanwhile, Innolux has exhibited a series of different sized displays including a 100- inch 16K8K S-UHD display module, 65-inch AM Mini LED 8K display, Mini LED PID and Mini LED automotive displays. 

At the booth, the company has showcased multiple applications including using the displays for retail stores to provide sufficient information for commodities. Foldable displays and flexible OLED for wearable applications were also presented by Innolux at the event.


 

Aside from panel manufacturers, LED chip makers have released their technologies and applications for displays. The vertically integrated LED company, Lextar, has demonstrated its Mini LED backlight for 15.6-inch gaming notebooks and 32-inch gaming monitors. These products use around 8000- 10000 Mini LEDs, enabling multi local dimming, HDR 1000 and high brightness.

The company has also showcased its Mini RGB display module and two Micro LED chip solutions including RGB Micro LED and Color Conversion Micro LED chip.

Another Taiwanese LED maker Epistar has introduced their Mini LED technologies as well. The company displayed its CoB with Mini LED with high brightness of 1000 nits which can present high contrast and is suitable for mobile phones, TVs, automotive panels and gaming displays. Epistar also has demonstrated WALED 1010, a special designed package for RGB Mini LED that helps to increase the yield for mass transferring and improve light uniformity.

Harvatek and CPT have also presented their Mini LED displays at the show. CPT has focused its Mini LED development for automotive displays.

IC design company Macroblock has unveiled its driver IC for Mini LED which requires advanced technology for one IC to control more LED chips compared to previous designs.
