LED Expo Thailand 2015 Positioned to Become Leading ASEAN LED Trade Platform

The four-day LED Expo Thailand 2015 lighting show organized by the Ministry of Energy, Electricity Generating Authority Thailand (EGAT), IMPACT Exhibition Management, MEX Exhibitions is positioned to becoming an exhibition platform for LED investors in the ASEAN region, said organizers.

The show which runs from May 21-24, 2015 at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center is one of Asia’s largest LED lighting show has been growing at a rate of 30% per year, said Guarav Juneja, Director of Mex Exhibitions.

Organizers estimated the show will attracted some 350 local and international LED businesses and at least 18,000 buyers this year.

Thailand’s Ministry of Energy has played a pivotal role in driving forward the local LED industry.

“The Ministry of Energy has implemented a policy concerning the Thailand’s energy management in order to promote the conservation of energy in line with the 20 Year Energy Efficiency Development Plan (2011-2030), which aims to reduce the energy consumption per product by 25%,” said Thailand’s Minister of Energy Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee. “The plan also aims to build energy-conscientious into the minds of consumers in every sector by focusing on promoting the switch to high efficiency technology, especially to the use of LED lightbulbs to increase the efficiency of lighting and at the same time conserving energy.”

The switch to LED “is considered to be an important measure to support the national energy conservation policy…In addition, it is crucial in driving the economy in Thailand and ASEAN through the investment into sustainable energy conservation as well,” he added.

“This exhibition presents LED products of global standards and the latest in modern energy-saving technology to Thai people and to ASEAN countries, where interest from the public and private sectors, as well as investors, is growing with the upcoming implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC),” said Soonchai Kumnoonsate, Governor of EGAT.

Kumnoonsate estimated the EGAT’s initiatives launched in 2013 to promote the switch to LED bulbs in Thailand including the promotion of Number 5 LED light bulbs, and sale of EGAT-boxed LED light bulbs, and streetlights in all EGAT locations has reduced energy consumption by at least 25 megawatts.

Speaking about the expo’s impact on ASEAN nations, Jaruwan Suwannasat, Exhibition and Event Director, Thailand Convention stated: “We expect to grow LED Expo Thailand to become an ASEAN leading international exhibition in LED Lighting products and technology, thus, generate business opportunities and economic impact from trading volume and direct spending to the country. In addition, it will help reinforce the positioning of Thailand as exhibition platform for ASEAN Economics Community.”
